When to use helplines & what to expect

You do not need to be in extreme crisis to reach out. Crisis lines are not just for emergencies, they’re for support, reassurance, finding your next step and for anytime you feel overwhelmed or unsafe. You are worthy of being heard and supported no matter how big or small you think it is.

You will never be judged for the situations you are dealing with. The crisis responders goal is to help you make healthy decisions and be safe.

Once you are connected to a crisis responder, they will:

  • Listen while giving you the space to talk.

  • Engage with compassion and try understand what you’re going through.

  • Support you in exploring different ways to create safety within yourself and your social circle, making sure you feel supported inside and outside the conversation.

You may be asked questions about your current situation, safety, and any thoughts of suicide that you or the person you are calling about may be having.

If you disclose that you are unsafe or experiencing thoughts about suicide, they will help you create a safety plan and/or support you in making your environment safer.
